Care for aging skin

The aging skin of dogs tends to become more oily, which is why the odor becomes stronger. An odor that is often annoying. The causes of this intense odor can be diverse, but, even if they are completely healthy, there are breeds that have a greater predisposition than others to present a more intense odor in their adulthood.

In addition, when a dog reaches a senior age, the thickness of the skin decreases, which is the organ whose function is to be the first protective barrier of the body. A symptom that our dog will require care according to his age.

Anna Gómez, professional dog groomer, explains that with the passage of time there is a decrease in the density of the coat and this can cause the skin to be more exposed to external agents that can attack it and even produce a thickening of the epidermis and darkening due to excess keratin.

In these cases, the dog's skin will have a dry appearance, indicating that it will require appropriate cosmetic treatments. Senior Care, the new range of Pet Home Groomers, is specifically formulated to meet the needs of senior dogs, minimizing unpleasant odors and contributing to a proper regeneration of the epidermis. Senior Care, which comes in shampoo, conditioner and lotion, is indicated for dogs over 8 years old.

Specific care

Senior Care contains an anti-odor active ingredient that encapsulates and neutralizes the molecules that produce an unpleasant odor, molecules that are enhanced in old age.

This PSH formula also contains a complex of natural extracts specially selected to provide greater moisturization and ensure cellular regeneration of the epidermis, contributing to the specific care necessary for the skin of adult dogs.

All the components of the Senior Care formula are designed to counteract the weakening that occurs in the skin of senior dogs:the moisturizing glycerin is treated to combat the dryness of the most aged skin, the medicinal plant extract focuses on combating the bad odors of this type of skin and, in addition, promotes cell regeneration of the epidermis. Senior Care also has an anti-allergenic fragrance, free of khaton, parabens and silicone.

Skin changes

The skin of senior dogs, as with the skin of humans, suffers a loss of elasticity. In addition, hyperkeratosis occurs in the skin and the hair follicles begin to atrophy, which is why bald patches appear along the coat.

The thinning of the skin of adult dogs leads to increased sensitivity, which can cause allergic reactions. Aging is also noticeable in the coat, which becomes coarser, loses luster and changes color.

From the age of eight, the skin and coat of senior dogs is substantially different from that of their early years. Loss of elasticity, thinning of the epidermis, roughness and lack of shine require special care. Therefore, the shampoos, conditioners and lotions that we used when our dogs were at a young age are no longer useful because now the needs are different.

In the face of the dryness, loss of elasticity and shine that older dogs have, components that provide hydration and moisturization are needed. Senior Care therefore contains glycerin, which absorbs and promotes moisture retention, thus providing a constant supply of moisture to the skin. The result is a nourished and soft skin that results in improved skin comfort and a reduction of redness and flaking due to dryness.

Hygiene: mouth, eyes and ears

Dog hygiene is key, as it is closely related to their health. It is a way to protect pets from possible infections and diseases.

The mouth and teeth are key in the hygiene of our pets. Poor hygiene can cause problems such as gum inflammation, loss of teeth or bacterial plaque. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out an adequate and routine hygiene, as well as to visit the veterinarian periodically.

The eyes are another extremely sensitive organ to which we must pay attention because they are prone to infections. In addition to regular visits to the veterinarian, they should be kept clean on a daily basis with PSH Eye Cleaner, which is formulated for the care of the periocular area of the canine eye, to prevent bacteria, viruses, parasites or fungi from causing infection in the eye through frequent routine cleaning.

Frequent cleaning of pets' ears and ears helps prevent otitis and other infections. Otic Cleaner, PSH's ear cleaner, provides optimal routine cleaning of your dog's ears because it contains tea tree oil, which acts as a natural antiseptic and helps to gently remove excess earwax build-up.
