Your pet's hygiene routine
At PSH we are committed to the happiness and well-being of your furry friend, that's why we share hygiene tips for your dog or cat, to perform a correct routine at home. Because as we say at PSH: shiny coat, radiant pet, and a flattering owner!
Why is it important to take care of your dog or cat's hygiene at home?
Performing a correct daily hygiene routine is fundamental for the well-being of your furry friend and to enjoy a safe and fun coexistence for everyone at home. Especially if your dog is the official "wallower" of the park or your cat is left to sharpen his nails with his friends. Hygiene for both is not only based on bathing, but also involves special attention to the daily cleaning of their coat, eyes, teeth, nails, ears and pads.
In the case of dogs, one bath a month, with a shampoo and conditioner appropriate for their coat, is enough. It will also depend on the intensity of their moments of enjoyment in nature, or their summer dips at the beach. While cats require less contact with water, since they manage their own hygiene with their licks.
Consequences of poor hygiene in your pet: fleas, ticks, mange and ringworm
Performing an optimal hygiene in your dog or cat is key to avoid infectious and parasitic diseases. Let's see which are the symptoms that your pet may present, as a result of a bad daily cleaning maintenance of your pet:
Fleas and ticks
Fleas and ticks feed on the animal's blood and can cause health problems, such as anemia, or diseases such as allergic dermatitis, dog tapeworm, Lyme disease and Bartonellosis, among others.
The most common symptoms that your cat or dog may present, due to having these villainous suckers are: excessive itching, skin irritation, rashes, eczema, presence of flea feces in the fur, loss of appetite, fever, tiredness, poor coordination, lameness and nosebleeds, among others.
Scabies
It is one of the worst enemies in cats or dogs that do not have a correct daily hygiene. Scabies is a highly contagious disease caused by mites, almost microscopic parasites that are very difficult to see.
Excessive itching, flaking of the skin, inflammation or reddening of the ears and intense scratching are some of the visible symptoms that can lead to terrible consequences such as sores or skin wounds.
Ringworm
Ringworm is a skin infection caused by different types of fungi. Ringworm is identified on the animal's skin as a round, dry, scaly area surrounded by a red trace, which protrudes from the skin.
The most common signs, in dogs and cats, are hair loss, scabs, yellow flaking. Ears, face and paws are the first areas of the animal that may present the first lesions.
Basics for the hygiene of your dog or cat
Let's see which are the basics that we recommend you to "check" daily to achieve an optimal hygiene routine for your pet:
Brushes his mantle
Depending on its coat type, it will require more or less brushing per shedding season. There are breeds that do not shed naturally and therefore, a different brushing will be necessary. We recommend you to consult directly with a professional.
- Spring and autumn (moulting season): one brushing per day.
- Winter and summer: brushing every other day is sufficient.
Cleans your ears and eyes
If your dog has long, droopy ears, pay more attention to this cleaning, as they are more prone to ear infections. Check your cat's or dog's ears at least once a week to remove excess earwax. You can do it with a wet gauze.
Our ear cleaner for dogs for dogs contains tea tree oil, which acts as a natural antiseptic and aids in cleaning, naturally.
For the cleaning your dog's or cat's eyesWe recommend you to do it every morning, especially to eliminate possible stains that may appear around the eyes.
Our Eye Cleaner is formulated with medicinal plant extracts that promote gentle and delicate cleansing of the eye contour.
Cut their nails and brush their teeth
The nails of our pets should be cut regularly to prevent them from digging into the pads or splitting. To do this, you should cut them with specific nail clippers for dogs or cats.
Their teeth, very important, should also be cleaned at least twice a week to prevent dental plaque, tartar and bad breath in your dog or cat.
